H: how would i get to your side of the island from the airport?
B: ummm....you would take the bus or i'd find a car to come get you in...why?
H: because i'm going to come out there tomorrow!
B: WHAT? SERIOUS?!!! (said in my most unbelieving ecstatic voice)
Long story short, I had my phone stolen while snorkeling on the beach only a few hours later while in the midst of trying to organize this spontaneous trip with the most unlikely to see friend which made things a little more complicated since i have only ONE persons phone number memorized and it's not even a family member. In fact my entire family changed their cell phone numbers and our house number only two days before this happened so i couldn't even call them! Hailey did make it here the next day and thats when one of the best weeks began! a lot of pictures are in this post. I was told by a friend that a lot of pictures in blogs is annoying and gets really cluttered but i just can't help it. so there's the preset to this picture filled post. starting with ....
Seeing a huge turtle on the beach while driving home!
THEN.....
Stopping off at Waimea to jump off this pretty famous jump spot...thats us jumping in the pic:)
Needless to say this trip was off to a good start! we saw a couple of sea turtles at this spot and got to swim right next to them. To anyone who knows me very well at all, you know i love, Love, LOVE sea turtles! so every time I see them its like a magical moment of me acting like a little girl screaming with excitement and trying to get as close to them as possible.
I love this girl!
Although it was sad and unfortunate that my Marine Biology professor fell and broke his arm on our first day out in the field on a reef the previous week...it was fortunate in this case that my classes got canceled so my weekend was totally freed up to hangout. The next day we went and tried out my new favorite pass time.. SURFING!
and nothing got broken into or stolen finally! (which happened 2 days in a row last week)
we were pretty much go, go, go with the exception of a few of these moments:) hammocks ROCK
This is at the PCC with my friend Sarah and her current boy Ezra after the PCC night show which was super amazing that night! I got to see the night show my first week here as a student for free but i'm pretty sure it was even better this night! the fire dancing was super impressive! I just don't understand how they don't burn themselves like crazy!
Saturday we made our way to "town" aka. Honolulu to go to the swap meet. It's kind of a must do thing for tourist if you want to get all your tourist things like bracelets, shirts, tiki's, bags that say "i love Hawaii" and all things that are Hawaiian to take home and give as gifts or keep for yourself. My greatest find there are some really cheap but really comfy "Jesus Sandals".
Sunday we biked to the Temple Visitors Center...in the pouring rain with Hailey riding off the back of my beach cruiser..i took the brunt of the rain fall...you cant tell very well but we were soaked in these pictures. to the point where rain drops fell off our eyelashes! good thing its always delightfully warm here no matter what!:)
Hiking to Sacred falls!
This was a freezing moment...i was surprised that Hailey was the one to make me get in and not the other way around...she definitely left all inhibitions at home in utah!
Don't even tell me you don't want to explore this beauty!
This was our DAY in the PCC...we like it there..;P
The day Hailz left we made a few stops on the way to the airport. The first was in a North shore town called Haleiwa (Hall-A- E-Va). we went to this house that has all these beautiful surf boards out front that they have painted on. People can come purchase these beautiful works of art or just come look at them. I've seen pictures of this place before and had been dying to go when i found out where it was. One of the owners came out and talked to us for a while. We had a very spiritual conversation and shared our common beliefs in Jesus Christ and spent some time asking each other questions. It was interesting how although we clearly belong to different denominations of Christianity our beliefs were very much the same. Our conversation made me feel like a missionary again! it was incredible. after our conversation she invited us into her home/ studio to have our own personal jam session put on by her kids. The mini concert just seemed to escalate into one of the coolest moments ever, starting with only one of her daughters playing on the ukulele and singing, then someone else joined in on the keyboard, then someone else joined in on the drums, then someone else with a bass guitar, then Victoria our host joined in...they were flat out amazing! they've been offered a bunch of contracts and offers to be on tv shows but they wont change their style of music like requested which is christian rock. We could all feel the Spirit of God in their home.
Last but not least in our remaining few hours together before her flight home we went to the pretty touristy Waikiki beach. we both love the North Shore way more but this is another must go to place.
I am so grateful for such good friends in my life. As my friend and I dropped her off at the airport he said to me "you have really good friends" i said " oh, i know!" because its true. i've had that told to me many times as i introduce the people i love to other people i love. i've been very blessed with amazing experiences in my life and amazing people to share them with, both friends and family. I never in a million years thought i'd see this particular friend this summer and i definitely didn't think she would be the first i would have come visit but i'm so glad she did!
